In 1988, the University of Balamand opened
with three Faculties - the St. John of Damascus Institute of
Theology, the Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts, and the
Faculty of Arts and social Sciences. From three Faculties, the
University has grown and developed to include nine: Académie
Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (Sin al-Fil - Beirut campus and Balamand
campus), Saint John of Damascus Institute of Theology, Faculty
of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of
Engineering, Faculty of Business and Management, Faculty of
Health Sciences, the Saint George’s Faculty of Post
Graduate Medical Education (the last two Faculties are located
in the Saint George’s Health Complex in Achrafieh, Beirut).
The latest is the Faculty of Medicine & Medical
Sciences which was established in 2000.
The
language of instruction in the various Faculties is as
follows:
Most faculty members are holders of a Ph. D. degree and serve
on full time basis. Faculty members are Lebanese or come from the Arab East, Europe and North America. UOB also hosts a number
of professors spending their sabbatical year in Lebanon in
order to pursue their research and give lectures in their
areas of expertise. UOB faculty members also take part in the
many artistic and cultural activities on
Campus. |
