|UN investigators take Lahoud's statement
|UN investigators took the statement of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Friday regarding the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri. According to judicial sources, "an investigator from the UN probe investigating the assassination visited Lahoud at the Presidential Palace in Baabda and heard his statement."
In another development, six witnesses gave their statements to Chief Investigating Magistrate Elias Eid on Friday in the Lebanese investigation into the assassination of Hariri.
Judicial sources said the six gave statements regarding "the six mobile phone lines that were used shortly before Hariri was assassinated, and which were all terminated at the same time shortly after the crime."
Eid had questioned telecommunication and IT engineer Majed Khatib on Thursday and ordered that he be detained for further questioning. Khatib works at MTC Touch Group.
Meanwhile, Naji Boustani, the defense attorney representing former Lebanese security chiefs Mustapha Hamdan and Raymond Azar, has presented an application for his clients to be released.
Boustani said that his clients are being held on mere "suspicions," not hard evidence.
