Jordan and Lebanon REACH, a new initiative to boost the collaboration in IT sectors between the two countries

The Information Technology Association of Jordan operated a visit to Lebanon to launch and encourage collaboration between the private information communication technology sectors of the two countries, adding also the invitation that will be addressed to Lebanese businessmen to Jordan's IT Forum in Amman, at the end of September.

But the main purpose of the visit is to boost REACH, "Regulating, Enabling, Advancing, Capital markets and Human resources".

It is a project that started in 1999, at the request of Jordan's King Abdullah II, aiming to establish cooperation between the kingdom's private and public sectors, so market opportunities in national and international regions will present themselves to Jordanian IT sector.

Beside this, between 1999 and 2000, foreign investments increased till $90 million, exports passed from $10 million to $40 million, and 97 new IT companies were registered.

The 2001 figures will be released during the IT forum, which is expected to attract over 1,000 local and foreign visitors.

Guest speakers will include Craig Barrett, chairman and CEO of Intel and John Gage, head of R&D Sun Microsystems.
