|Cinema : better a bird in the hand than two flying.
|Two leading Lebanese cinema chains are discussing the possibilities of putting together some of their activities.
In an environment which saw the number of admissions decreasing in more than 30 000 in 2001 with regard to the previous year, this agreement should harmonise the rates which are one of the stumbling blocks susceptible to get the attendance figure back to their usual level.
The second lies naturally in the programming.
The union of these two chains will allow them to help each other purchasing the broadcasting rights of attractive movies without repercussion on the price ticket.
Given the non extensive size of the market, this is a major concern for the sector in Lebanon.
The first evident sign of the foreseen joint venture should be the gathering of Planete Zouk and Espace 2000, the second should be a common programming, either through a simultaneous movie projection or through a alternate programming: a movie is broadcasted a week in a chain and the week after in the other.
The agreement hasn't been reached yet.
The new entity will have more latitude to negociate better conditions with movie distributors, but it will be in a position of quasi monopoly as well.
There is a solution for the movie lovers : wait and see!!
