Decoration and Architecture
The Lebanese Way of Life…. Many professions
are contributing to Lebanon's well being and to the improvement of the quality
of living. These two elements are integral parts of the Lebanese tradition, if
not traditions themselves!
However, as important as this heritage is, Lebanese society has solidly modernist
tendencies. |

The delightful mix of ancient and modern has a deep influence on the atmosphere
of Lebanon: the new Beirut Central District gathers the architectural style of
ancient Beirut and all the facilities one can expect of a capital city of the
third millennium. In the past few years, large corporations (banks, insurance
companies…) have sponsored green spaces in Greater Beirut, and have been
aided in this task by urban landscape designers. Other projects are taken on in
order to recover and rehabilitate the "spirit" of certain old neighbourhoods
and a similar trend of revival can be seen in the design of interior spaces. Architecture
and interior design will keep contributing to the Lebanese radiance abroad.

Although Lebanon is a very sunny country, very
special attention is paid to home interiors. Carpet importers are known for their
antique & contemporary Persians, Caucasian, Oriental carpets and Kilims.
Woodcraft has for centuries occupied a very important place in Lebanon's architectural
and furniture-making traditions. |
Various techniques are used (including sculpture, engraving, turning, carving,
painting, illumination, marquetry, inlay, leather covering, stud-work, and others),
and each discipline employs specialised craftsmen: joiners, wood sculptors, wood
turners and painters, marquetry workers, wooden-chest makers (www.maisontarazi.com).
Some companies still use traditional techniques to produce on a larger scale.
