In the normal eye, light enters and is bent by the front tissue of the eye (Cornea), along with the crystalline lens, focuses into the retina, which gives you 10/10 vision.

The cornea is too steep or the eyeball too long ; light from distant objects focuses in front of the retina.

The cornea is too flat or the eyeball too short ; light from nearby objects focuses in the back of the retina.

An irregular curvature of the cornea that prevents light from focusing on a single point.

- PRK : In PRK the excimer laser is used tof sculpt the front surface of the cornea into a new shape
to correct low to moderate degrees of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The excimer laser
is computer-controlled, safe, precise, accurate and fast.

- LASIK : The Lasik is considered safe and effective for patients with low to high myopia, with or without astigmatism and low to moderate hyperopia. The procedure combines two sophisticated techniques of surgery to correct refractive errors. First a microkeratome is used to create a thin flap on the cornea, next an excimer laser (similar to PRK) is then used to sculpt the underlying cornea into a new shape.

- The Laser Vision Correction Experience -
Prior to treatment, the physician administers anesthetic eye drops to the patient to numb the eye.
After the eye drops have had a chance to take effect, the patient is led to a treatment room and positioned in a comfortable chair underneath the laser system. Once the patient is centered he /she asked to focus on a small, bright light visible from the bottom of the microscope.

This allows the eye to be suitably aligned, and the actual treatment can then begin.
The patient remains awake and pain-free during the treatment.

- Post Laser Vision Correction -
After the treatment, ointment and drops are placed in the eye to facilitate the healing process. After the treatment, most patients will experience a sensation in the eye and /or some discomfort. Typically, the patient will notice improved vision in 3 days or sooner following the treatment.

Treatment follow-up generally involves several visits to the doctor.
