| Haigazian University -
Named in honor of Dr. Armenag Haigazian*, Haigazian University
(HU), formerly Haigazian College, was founded in 1955 by the Union of Armenian
Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE) and the Armenian Missionary Association
of America (AMAA).
Comprised of four faculties, Haigazian University is a liberal arts institution
of higher learning where research and theoretical and practical learning go hand-in-hand.
The four faculties are grouped for administrative purposes into two schools, each
headed by an Academic Dean: The Dean of Business Administration and Economics
is Dr. Fadi Asrawi, and Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences is Dr. Arda Ekmekji.
The University offers, BA, BS, MA and MBA degrees.
Haigazian operates on the American model of higher education. HU is also a member
of the Association of American International Colleges and Universities (AAICU).
The AAICU comprises a number of distinct, university-level institutions in Europe
and the Middle East, within the American system of higher education.
The University has qualified faculty and staff who constantly promote high principles
and excellence in service and learning through various academic and extra -curricular
activities, enhancing communication, expression, fundamental human values and
the exchange of knowledge. Both student and departmental activities include student,
faculty and staff involvement. The Result is the growth of Haigazian’s stature
as an institution of higher learning that abides by its motto, Truth, Freedom
and Service.
The spiritual aspect of Haigazian helps students explore their belief system and
develop a consistent and informed personal theology. Life at Haigazian is dedicated
to learning, understanding and serving a wide variety of students, who represent
a range of religious groups.
Haigazian’s aim is to inspire and assist its students’ academic, social
and spiritual needs in a family atmosphere and a Christian environment.
The University provides scholarships that enable student to pursue academic excellence.
As Haigazian continues to produce professional men and women, it also has a special
program for adults who wish to continue their education. The Lifelong Learning
section of Haigazian gives adults the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and
skills through two programs: the Adult Education Program and the In-service Teacher
Training Program.
At the beginning of this academic year of 2004, the Haigazian University President
said, “ Haigazian is blessed by visionary administrators, dedicated staff,
outstanding students, qualified faculty, and accomplished alumni. Our University
is religiously, ethnically and linguistically diverse yet integrated, modern in
its methods yet grounded in historical identity, critical in thinking yet challenged
by faith, locally based yet internationally concerned, educationally oriented
yet socially bound. It is a community that finds educational value in each of
these dynamic characteristics.”
It is within the mission of Haigazian to invest in its students’ potential,
enriching their University life, making the learning experience at Haigazian a
gateway to positive contribution primarily for the people of Lebanon and societies
worldwide. Haigazian is proud of its alumni serving in different communities and
around the globe. Soon Haigazian University will mark its 50th anniversary, and
thanks to all those who continued the dream of the highly renowned and respected
educator, Dr. Armenag Haigazian.

Libraries at Haigazian started with its foundation, 1955. Today, Haigazian University
has two Libraries, the Barsoumian Library (English and Arabic) and the Armenological
Library.
The Barsoumian Library is named after Nazareth Barsoumian, who generously supported
it during his lifetime. The Barsoumian Library uses the Library of Congress Subject
Headings and the Dewey decimal classification. Its collection comprises around
34,000 volumes. It also houses the special collection of Dr. Armenag Haigazian’s
archive, which includes academic notes, textbooks and diverse subject and a pocket
encyclopedia in the Armenian.
The books in the Armenian Library, a collection of 31, 000 volumes, are a rare
collection, a selection of 18th and 19th century publications. The Armenian Library
was successful in establishing its own department. Up to this date, our Armenological
Library is considered to be one of the best-organized and richest collections
in the Diaspora.
